Volleyball Tournament (November 2011) - Congratulations to the Year 8 Boys' Volleyball team who came 2nd in the Champion of Champions Auckland-wide Volleyball tournament.
Royal Commonwealth Society Essay Competition (October 2011) - The following students have been successful in this year's worldwide Royal Commonwealth Society Essay competition: Category C (Silver Award) Clio Exconde; Category C (Bronze Award) Celine Malaluan; Category D (Silver Award) Harlem Ironside and Joelle Reid; Category D (Bronze Award) Mary Aguilar and Kayla Gandela. Well done to all of you.
NZ Talent Development Umpires Programme (October 2011) - Rebecca Callaghan in Year 12 has been selected to participate in the NZ Talent Development umpires programme run by Netball NZ. Well done Rebecca!
Australian Mathematics Competition (September 2011) - Congratulations to the staff and students involved in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Students from Years 7 to 11 at Marcellin College gained 6 Distinctions and 25 Merits - a great result.
2011 Wearable Arts Awards (September 2011) - Congratulations to ex-student Christopher Davis who has won the sustainability award at the 2011 Wearable Arts Awards. Chris' entry was his first ever and was called "Itchy Stitch" and was made up of 3,000 knitting needles which he came by by purchasing all the available stocks from the charity shops.
Catholic Schools' Debating Competition (August 2011) - Marcellin College has had a very successful year in the Catholic Schools' Debating Competition. The school entered a Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 team in the competition. These teams engaged in some fascinating debates. The Year 9 team was coached by Ms Molloy and they performed very well in their first year of debating. They won two of their three debates and, together with a team from St Dominics' College, were the best team in the Year 9 division of the competition. Peone Logo-Fitzgerald was also awarded a certificate of merit for earning "Best Speaker" in a debate. The Year 10 team was coached by Mrs Pearce. This team won two of their three debates and was also tied for best team in the Year 10 level of the competition. Maria Basabas and Amanda Peters were both awarded certificates for "Best Speaker". The Year 11 team, coached by Ms Comer, won both of their debates and were tied with St Mary's College for best team in the Year 11 competition. Kane Welsh and Elizabeth Schmidt both received certificates of merit for "Best Speaker". Finally, Marcellin College was also awarded "Best School" in the competition for their results overall. This is an impressive achievement and all of the students who participated should be very proud of their efforts.
Caring New Kids' Competition (August 2011) - Nikko Eichler in Year 7 has won the Years 4-7 Caring New Kids' Competition for the Catholic Caring Foundation. Nikko won a $100 Warehouse voucher and he is able to make a $300 donation to an organisation that receives assistance from the Catholic Caring Foundation. Nikko chose the donation to go to the Papatoetoe adolescent Christian Trust which "works with young people and their families to provide monetary, practical and spiritual assistance".
Stand Up! Stand Out! Dance Competition (August 2011) - Marcellin College entered two crews for the dance competition Stand Up! Stand Out! Both groups performed extremely well. The Year 12 crew - "IDK" gave an exciting and energetic performance and were placed in the top five to go through to the grand finals at the TelstraClear Pacific in September.
Otago University Problem Challenge Exams (May 2011) - A total of 24 Marcellin students sat this exam. Eight students scored 100% (which is 33% of the students). Seven students scored 80% - outstanding results.
MUNA (June 2011) - Johanna Myers, Josephine Kado and Katie Louden made up the delegration from the Republic of Korea at this year's Model United Nations Assembly. 96 teams spent two full-on days at the end of last week debating issues of international importance. The Marcellin team took away the Award for Best Costume.
Auckland Netball (May 2011) - Congratulations to Celine Lio, Grace Moors and Frieda Ngan-Wu who all made the Year 9 Representative Squad for Auckland Netball.
NZCU Scholarships (March 2011) - Wesley Machee and C'Squetia Opetaia both received scholarships from the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Credit Union to use on their schooling in 2011. We take great pleasure in the honour that Wesley and C'Squetia have been accorded.
Ara Fine Arts Awards (February 2011) - The Ara Fine Arts Awards ceremony for the 2010 top Art students in Auckland were held in early February 2011. There was an exhibition of students' art folios and Ashley McCabe received an award of $1,000 towards future study.
Knights of the Southern Cross Essay Competition (September 2010) - Congratulations to Tokanga Paea who was one of the winners in the Under 14 age group essay competition for the Year of the Priests.
Stand Up! Stand Out! Competition (August 2010) - Congratulations to Edwina Aiono for her solo performance in the Stand Up! Stand Out! Competition. Edwina was chosen as one of six finalists from 46 competitors. The finals are to be held on Friday 27th August at the TelstraClear Events Centre.
Smokefree Pacifica Beats 2010 (July 2010) - Congratulations to Raxxd (Shekinah Delos Santos, Michael Lasi, Foka Lomu, Jonathan Tatafu, Iona Sinafoa, Simon Piutau and Christina Evalu) for being selected to perform at the Auckland Regional Final for Smokefree Pacifica Beats 2010.
Junior School Spelling Bee (June 2010) - Congratulations to Marc Quiambao for winning the June Spelling Bee for Year 7 and 8. Congratulations also to Clio Exconde for coming second.
Smokefree Rockquest Competition 2010 (May 2010) - Congratulations to Zenith (David Fo'ou, Tiale Kaio, Edwina Aiono, Uililose Taufalele, James Tapueluelu and Utu Tapueluelu) for being selected as one of 14 out of 55 bands to perform at the Auckland Regional Final. Their performance of their two original songs, 'You' and 'Love or Addiction' was most memorable and definitely a crowd favourite.
